Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon appeared on Loose Women and exclusively revealed the gender of her baby after a "tough" pregnancy journey.

The 44-year-old singer gave her first TV interview since sharing the news that she's pregnant last month. Liz is expecting her first child with husband Peter who she met on a dating app four years ago.

They had three failed embryo cycles, but tried again after their wedding in 2023. It wasn't until the new year that they received the good news.

During Wednesday's (June 11) episode of Loose Women, Liz sat down with Christine Lampard, GK Barry, Janet Street-Porter and Jane Moore as she detailed her pregnancy journey.

On meeting her husband Peter and experiencing fertility issues, Liz said: "We didn’t know, the reason we went to a doctor to find out was because when we met, I was over 40 and it’s a reality. We just thought, ‘Let’s see where we are, let’s see where we stand’."

Speaking about the fertility treatment and it not working, Liz continued: "You do think, this will be fine, one go and this will be it.

"I think it just became such a shock, I think the second time I thought, ‘Maybe this time’. You do have so much hope every single time and then… You have to have [hope] because I hated myself a little bit for having the hope but you’re so right actually, if you don’t go into it with that, why are you doing it?"

Reflecting on finding out she was pregnant during her eighth cycle, she shared: "I decided to test a bit early because to be honest, I was bleeding and I just wanted to know yes or no. Pete was at work and I was really naughty and took a test without him.

"I was just so scared again because I’d only just had a miscarriage in November. I looked at it and it was blank, I just uncontrollably started crying.

"I turned around to wash my hands and the test was on the side of the bath and then I turned around and there was a faint line, I just went, ‘Ah my god’. Everything was amazing."

As Janet asked how the pregnancy is going and where Liz is up to, and after announcing that she's five months pregnant, the star officially revealed the gender of the baby for the first time.

She proudly exclaimed: "We know what we’re having if you’d like to know, we’re having a boy! We thought it might be a girl actually but I don’t know, we just thought it might be a girl."

Loose Women airs on weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
