A trendy new hub is coming to Wigan's former civic centre, and it's set to open this summer.

A newly released image shows how it will look.

It will see the iconic building reborn as ‘Civic’ - a home for startups, creative businesses and established names.

Originally built in the 1970s, the old council offices have long stood empty - a monument to the town’s past.

But they have now been reimagined as a new hub for Wigan’s creative and entrepreneurial scene following the development by Capital&Centric.

Wigan council leader David Molyneux said: “I’m thrilled to see the steady and continued progress on the construction and restoration of the civic centre, soon to be known as Civic.

“It’s incredible to witness how Capital&Centric have transformed our former council offices into creative, modern workspaces that can confidently rival the kind of offices you’d expect to find in major cities.

“This redevelopment offers a unique and distinctive workspace right in the heart of Wigan – and it couldn’t come at a better time.

"With so much happening across our town – from the transformation of The Galleries now known as Fettlers to Cotton Works at Eckersley Mill, and STACK at the former Debenhams – Wigan is fast becoming the place to be, live, work, and visit.”

John Moffat, joint managing director atg developer Capit&Centric, said: “Civic has been a part of Wigan’s story for decades, but we’re giving it a bold new purpose.

"This isn’t just about workspace – it’s about creating a buzzing hub that champions local talent, helps startups thrive and brings something fresh to the heart of the town. We’re building a community that’s full of energy, ideas and proper Wigan spirit."

The plans include a mix of workspaces designed to change and grow with the businesses that call Civic home - from incubator spaces for fledgling startups to larger units for more established businesses.

Business residents will also get access to amenities, including an on-site gym, a mini cinema, and a roof terrace for al fresco hangouts and social events.

A publicly accessible café-bar space will offer a place to socialise, catch up and bookable meeting rooms give businesses the space to plan, pitch and collaborate.
