A man has been taken to hospital with 'potentially serious injuries' after a 'serious crash' which has left a major road closed all day.

Emergency services have been in attendance on the A673 Chorley New Road in Horwich, near Bolton, since this morning (June 10).

It follows reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian. The ambulance service has confirmed a man in his 30s was hurt.

The road was shut between Winter Hey Lane and Hartley Street, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. It was reported to have reopened at around 4.40pm.

Multiple witnesses have reported seeing a vehicle hit a building on Chorley New Road.

Google Maps data shows the collision has taken place near to Horwich RMI.

Police and paramedics have been seen in attendance following the collision.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "A man in his 30s was taken to hospital, with potentially serious injuries. It was reported as an RTC involving a pedestrian."

Further details are yet to be confirmed. Emergency services have been approached for further information.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning that they were attending reports of a collision on Chorley New Road which occurred around 6.45am. However, the force have not provided any further details since then, other than to say that the incident is being dealt with by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. We await their statement.
