Drivers were facing delays on three Greater Manchester motorways after a vehicle overturned on the M60.

Traffic built up for several miles on the clockwise carriageway after a collision near junction 16.

Queues tailed back to junction 12 for the M62 Eccles Interchange.

It followed an overturned vehicle on the motorway, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service.

Motorists were warned to expect 'severe delays' in both directions approaching the crash scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At just after 8.50am on Wednesday (June 11) one fire engine from Whitefield fire station attended a crash involving one car which was on its roof on the arrival of firefighters on the M60 clockwise, between junction 15 and 16.

"Two lanes were closed by GMFRS alongside GMP while the vehicle was recovered by National Highways. Crews were in attendance for around 20 minutes."

There were also queues on the M62 westbound from junction 19 at Heywood, and the M61 southbound approaching the M60.

A post from Inrix said: "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to overturned vehicle on M60 clockwise from J16 A666 Manchester Road (Pendlebury) to J17 A56 Bury New Road (Prestwich / Whitefield).

"Congestion to J12 (Eccles Interchange) for clockwise traffic.

"Also queues anti-clockwise due to on-lookers."
