A man was arrested after he 'tried to unplug the sound system' at an Ironman event in Bolton. The Night Run event saw runners take part in either 5k or 10k runs through the town centre.

Organsiers said it was a 'a perfect shake out run' for those preparing to take part in Ironman 70.3 which is being held in the town on Sunday (June 8).

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) had officers stationed in the town centre for event.

They were deployed as Project Servator, which aims to disrupt criminal activity and reassure the public through a highly visible police presence in heavily populated public areas and events.

They have said one man was detained.

"The weather didn't dampen the mood but one male tried to when he tried to unplug the sound system!," GMP's Bolton district said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

"He was arrested for public nuisance & remains in custody," they added.

For the main event on Sunday, a one-loop 1.2-mile swim course takes over to Pennington Flash Country Park, near Leigh, starting at 6.15am.

Following the swim, the 56-mile bike course, starts with two-loops through the villages of Lowton, Abram and Bickershaw before heading north towards Bolton.

The second half of the course sees two loops of Horwich and Bolton along Chorley New Road. An out-and-back section on Victoria Road and Old Kiln Road provides the main climb of the day.

After completing the loop of central Bolton for a second time, the bike course concludes in Queens Park. The two-loop 13.1 mile run course laps around Bolton town centre before ascending through Queen’s Park onto Chorley New Road.

After descending back through Queen’s Park, athletes will then return to the crowds and historic buildings of central Bolton before hitting the finish line in front of Bolton Town Hall.

Thousands of people are taking part with roads closures in places across the course.
