Man United transfer verdict given over Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres moves

Manchester United are in dire need of a new striker - and they could get one of the best this summer amid links with moves to Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen

Manchester United are in dire need of a new strikes and the two names on every top club's lips are Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen. Fans in the Manchester Evening News comments sections have yet to pick their favourite of the pair as the "mini" transfer window for the Club World Cup closes.

United's chief worry in the past season was a lack of goals to win games - only Everton managed to score fewer goals without getting relegated. Early transfer activity like the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and the ongoing pursuit of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo will go some way to improving the team's attacking threat.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who will return from a year-long loan to Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray this summer, could be that final piece of the puzzle. The Nigeria international was very impressive as he helped Napoli to the Serie A title two years ago and dominated the Turkish league in the past season.

Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres could be reunited with Amorim instead and he's been a talisman for his side since his move from Coventry City in the Championship. He's scored more league goals than he's played league games for Sporting, and if he could replicate anything close to that in the Premier League, it would go a long way to putting United back among the top of the table.

Either would require a significant outlay and with United already committing over £100 million to Cunha and Mbeumo, some good sales would have to be made.

The fans are torn on who would help restore the faith in United's attack. Reader RED DEVIL says: "Osimhen may be a good signing for United, we certainly need a proven centre forward. We live in hope."

Commenter Wiserds writes: "Viktor Gyokeres worries me given his English experience extends to Coventry City. Of course he could be a success, but why did no Premier League (team) identify him prior to going to Sporting?

"Victor Osimhen is also a worry, but that is more about his attitude and reputation for not necessarily fitting well into a dressing room. United have had enough of this type of individual and working hard to get rid of them. Do they need to recruit one? I guess all signings are a gamble!"

Utd4me writes: "There was a time when Utd got the best of the best. Osimhen is the best that's out there and he's available, get him signed up."

Gyokeres' goals don't convince Flynn745: "£63 mil is to much for Osimhen but Gyokeres is not at the same level as Oshimen. He has done well for a couple of seasons in Portugal. The Italian league is superior!"

Josephaik says: "Signing Victor Osimhen will be the best decision Manchester United FC management will ever make this season, Osimhen's record speaks volumes both at Napoli & Galatasaray..."

Yukoncornelius1 would lean the other way: "Take the Mbuemo money, spend £10m more and get Gyokeres."

Kevinlocko writes: "We all want Viktor Gyokeres, and if we do sign Viktor Gyokeres, Jonathan David on a free transfer would be a good back up to Gyokeres. Sign both of them this summer."

Anniemause would also back the Swedish international: "He has become the most prolific goalscorer in Europe, currently scoring 97 goals in 102 games, and if you bother to watch his YouTube reels you will see he is a complete centre forward. Pacey, powerful, good with his feet, good in the air and capable of turning a centre back. Of all the options out there, getting him must be the least risk, and frankly if he can't score for United then there is most likely something very wrong elsewhere in the side."

Have your say! Osimhen or Gyokeres - who would get your nod if you were in charge of Manchester United's transfers? Comment below, and join in on the conversation.
