Thousands of people watched as dancers, drummers and dogs paraded through a sunny Manchester to mark St George's Day.

The parade, which took place on Sunday (April 27), featured forty floats as well as horse-drawn carriages and military vehicles. The massive procession began at around midday in Miles Platting before making its way through Piccadilly and the Northern Quarter.

Floats were daubed in English flags with many of the people who were taking part or watching the parade proudly waving or wearing the St George's cross, while some of those involved in the event dressed up in costumes depicting different eras of English history.

More than 10,000 people are said to have watched what organisers described as the biggest St George's Day Parade for years.

Thelma McGrail, chair of the St George's Day organising committee, said: "Today's parade was one of the best and biggest for years.

"The sun shone on forty floats depicting the best of our heritage. A big thank you to all the volunteers that make it happen.

Manchester councillor Pat Karney added: "Over ten thousand people watched the sunniest and biggest St George's Parade in years. Thousands of children and families watched the amazing history and heritage of our country."
