Manchester United academy graduates Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood will reportedly reunite to become teammates again this summer, as Marseille are said to have completed a deal for the former.

Gomes will become a free agent when his Lille contract expires at the end of this month. Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were credited with an interest in the England international, but he now seems set to stay in France.

The 24-year-old joined Lille from United five years ago and has made over 100 appearances for the club after an initial loan at Boavista in Portugal. Gomes, however, now appears to be heading south.

RMC Sport reports that he is in Marseille to have a medical on Wednesday. The player will reputedly sign a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 runners-up.

Doing so would reunite him and Greenwood, who came through the United academy around the same time. They played together 20 times between 2017 and when Gomes left the club in 2020.

The first were for the under-18s and under-19s, the latter in the UEFA Youth League, before progressing to the under-23s. Their first taste of senior football came on the final day of the 2018/19 season, with Gomes joining Greenwood on the pitch during a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City at Old Trafford.

The following season, they started three Europa League group stage games together, home and away against Astana, and their game with AZ in Alkmaar. They then appeared alongside one another in the League Cup semi-final first home leg defeat to Manchester City, and for what proved to be the final time in January 2020, when Norwich City came to Old Trafford.

Gomes then departed on a free transfer later that year after turning down a new contract from the club. The midfielder will now again move on a free this summer.
