Full list of UK areas affected by Met Office thunderstorm warnings as 'disruption' expected
Heavy rain and thunder will hit the UK this week
Three severe weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office ahead of thunderstorms in the UK this week.
It comes after the Met Office forecast temperatures of up to 29C this week in parts of the country amid a variety of weather phenomena including rain, thunderstorms, and even hail.
The first thunderstorm warning comes into effect at 12am on Thursday, June 12, affecting South West England and Wales, with a second warning coming into place at 6am the same day affecting Northern Ireland.
A third thunderstorm warning comes into effect at 3pm on Friday, June 13, and remains in place until 6am on Saturday, June 14, which affects the East of England and London and the South East.
The Met Office issues severe weather warnings for a variety of weather phenomena such as snow, ice, hail, rain, wind and fog, among others. The alerts vary in severity from yellow, to amber, through to red.
A yellow alert signifies low level impacts including disruption to travel, amber means there is an increased likelihood of disruption, and the most severe red warning means that dangerous weather is expected and there is a risk to life.
The upcoming thunderstorm warnings are all yellow warnings, although the Met Office can update the warnings if they get new signs of more severe conditions.
According to the Met Office warning in Northern Ireland on Thursday, the conditions are going to be as follows: "Heavy rain and thunderstorms will move northwards across Northern Ireland during Thursday and may lead to some disruption in places."
The warning for South West England and Wales on Wednesday reads: "An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move northwards, perhaps leading to some travel disruption in a few places."
And finally, the overnight warning affected the East of England and London and the South East reads: "Thunderstorms may bring some disruption during Friday evening, and overnight into Saturday."
