The Met Office has issued three weather warnings as thunderstorms are forecast for the UK.

Glorious sunshine is covering much of the country today (June 11), after frequent spells of rain and overcast weather so far this month.

But conditions will change again later this week, according to the Met Office.

Two yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms have been issued for Thursday.

One covers most of Wales and South West England, for 13 hours from 12am until 1pm while the second covers Northern Ireland for 15 hours from 6am to 9pm.

The Met Office says a band of rain will move northwards across the country throughout Thursday.

A Met Office spokesperson added: "The rain will be locally heavy with thunderstorms. A few places perhaps receiving 10-20 mm of rain in an hour, and 30-40 mm in three hours or less, leading to a risk of disruption.

"Winds will also be strong at times, perhaps gusting to 40-50 mph around hills and coasts."

Forecasters have also issued a third thunderstorm warning for most of London, East Anglia and the South East. It runs for 15 hours from 3pm on Friday until 6am on Saturday.

A Met Office spokesperson added: "Thunderstorms are possible across parts of eastern and south-eastern England from Friday afternoon through to the early hours of Saturday.

"Although many places within the warning area may not see any impacts, torrential downpours could bring 30-50mm of rain, with a risk of even greater accumulations should thunderstorms line up, and with much of the rain perhaps falling in a short space of time, leading to a risk of surface water flooding.

"Thunderstorms may also bring large hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning to some places which could cause damage and power cuts."

The North, Midlands and Scotland have not yet been issued any weather warnings for this week, but some rain and showers are forecast in these areas over the coming three days.
