Marks & Spencer shoppers say they still can't get the items they want after the retailer reopened its website to shoppers.

Online shopping has been unavailable since the Easter weekend when the retailer was targeted by hackers in a damaging cyber attack.

It's left shoppers with the only option of visiting stores, but not always finding the products or correct sizes in store.

With online shopping resuming, customers have told us they've been keen to get back on the site and order the summer essentials they've been waiting for.

But they've been disappointed to find a number of products out of stock.

One mum said: "I've been wanting some of the linen trousers for weeks and every time I've been to the store they've not had my size.

"As soon as they said online shopping is back on, I jumped on the website, but discovered they're not even in stock. It's a bit disappointing when we've all waited so long to be able to order online again."

Others have taken to social media to complain about the same thing.

"You’ll always have my support. Sadly the things I wanted to order are out of stock online so I’ll have to go to store anyway," said one shopper.

Another said: "It's great news and I'm glad to have it back, but it will be better once everything is back in stock."

M&S said last month the breach had been caused by 'human error' after hackers were able to gain access via a third party, after using social engineering – human error or misjudgement – in order to get into the retailer’s systems.

Customer personal data, which could have included names, email addresses, postal addresses and dates of birth, was also stolen by hackers, with the retail group confirming the attack is set to cost the firm around £300 million.

But M&S said on its website on Tuesday: "You can now place online orders with standard delivery to England, Scotland and Wales.

"Delivery to Northern Ireland will resume in the coming weeks.

"We will resume Click & Collect, next-day delivery, nominated-day delivery and international ordering in the coming weeks.

"We’re currently offering UK standard delivery on all online orders to England, Scotland and Wales.

"For now, Click & Collect, next day delivery and nominated day delivery and international ordering are unavailable. We’re working hard to resume these services as soon as possible."

In a statement published on social media, Marks & Spencer managing director of clothing, home and beauty John Lyttle said: “We are bringing back online shopping this week.

“A selection of our best-selling fashion ranges will be available for home delivery to England, Scotland and Wales.

“More of our fashion, home and beauty products will be added every day, and we will resume deliveries to Northern Ireland and Click and Collect in the coming weeks.

“Thank you sincerely for your support and for shopping with us.”

Chief executive Stuart Machin had confirmed disruption could last until July.

It came as the company reported a higher-than-expected adjusted pre-tax profit of £875.5 million for the year to March, up 22.2% on the previous year.

Responding to items being out of stock, an M&S spokesperson said: "We’re offering our bestselling products, along with newness and this makes up the majority of our range which is available online today."

They said more of the fashion, home and beauty ranges 'will be added every day', adding: "For products that are not available online, customers can add them to their ‘wish list’ and when they come back into stock we will let them know. Our full range remains available in store."
