New discount store 'set to rival Temu' and shoppers can't wait
A new online shopping service created by Amazon offers a wide variety of goods for sale for £20 or less, and some people believe it could rival the likes of Temu and Shein now that it's reached the UK
Shoppers have been alerted to the emergence of a new budget retailer, and people can't get enough. Amazon has launched a new app that budget-conscious shoppers reckon could give the likes of Temu a run for their money. The mobile-only platform, which started beta-testing last month, is set to fully launch in the coming weeks.
However, customers can already make purchases by visiting the Amazon website and clicking on 'Haul' just below the search bar. Dubbed 'Amazon Haul', the feature enables users to snap up bargain items across various categories such as fashion, home, and lifestyle. TikTok user Si Rudge revealed that following a successful trial in the US, the enterprise is "here to stay" in the UK too.
"It's a service where you can get thousands and thousands of products for under £20," he raved in a video. Si continued: "Amazon says it is £2.99 per delivery if you spend under £15, but free if spending over this amount. How awesome is that?"
He closed with a bold prediction: "It's really going to be the future of cheap products I think."
Detailing the service in May, the global juggernaut stated: "Amazon has always worked to provide customers with the widest possible selection, low prices, and a convenient shopping experience, and we offer hundreds of millions of products across more than 30 categories in the UK.
"Building on this longstanding customer offer, and following the launch of Amazon Haul in the US last year, we are today introducing Amazon Haul in the UK – offering customers thousands of products for £20 or less, with the majority under £10 and some for as little as £1."
Meanwhile, the shopping experience, including search, basket, and checkout, has been tailored to provide a "fun, engaging way to shop" via the app, with Amazon Haul ensuring that all orders will be delivered within two weeks of placing them.
John Boumphrey, Amazon's UK Country Manager, commented: "We are constantly working to provide the best possible shopping experience for customers, and this is another way to offer low prices on a wide selection of products.
"Now more than ever we know our customers are looking to save, and we're excited to provide more options through the shopping app they already know and love."
Amazon Haul was first launched in the US in November 2024, and the company quickly announced its intention to expand the service "in Europe (including the UK and Germany) and the Middle East (as Amazon Bazaar in Saudi Arabia)".
Temu, meanwhile, was established in Massachusetts in 2022 and has declared its commitment "committed to bringing affordable products onto its platform to enable consumers and sellers to fulfil their dreams in an inclusive environment."
Owned by Chinese firm, Pinduoduo, Temu's gross merchandise volume hit US $15.1 billion in 2023, with the majority coming in the second half of the year, according to Business of Apps.
By September of that year, it had a staggering 80 million users in the US alone.
In fact, more than 40% of Temu downloads have come from the US, whilst the UK is Temu's second largest market. As such, Amazon Haul may have its work cut out in catching up.
