School's tribute to 'lively' and 'intelligent' boy, 14, who was stabbed to death

The school of a 14-year-old boy who was stabbed to death has issued an emotional statement on the tragedy.

Ibrahima Seck died from his injuries after he was taken to hospital on June 8. A murder investigation has been opened after Ibrahima was stabbed outside of the Fairway Inn on Broadway, New Moston.

After the attack, Ibrahima ran to Nevin Road while gravely injured, where he was helped by neighbours before being taken to hospital where sadly he passed away.

Now the headteacher of Ibrahima's school has paid tribute to the "lively, intelligent, and engaging young man", saying the devastating loss has left a "huge hole in our school community".

Louise Hodson, Executive Headteacher of Greater Manchester Independent School, said: "It's with profound sadness that we are trying to process the sudden and tragic death of one of our students, and the thoughts of everyone in school are with Ibrahima's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

"Ibrahima was a lively, intelligent and engaging young man whose presence lit up every room. Known for his warm, chatty nature, his infectious energy and sense of humour, brought joy to students and staff alike.

"His strong sense of social justice inspired those around him, and he was deeply committed to making the world a better place.

"His creativity shone particularly brightly in drama lessons and on excursions for The Duke of Edinburgh Award, and he relished playing football during breaktimes with his friends.

"He was also immensely proud of his 100% attendance, which reflected his dedication and love for school life.

"Ibrahima was a happy, compassionate young person, loved by everyone who knew him, and has left an indelible mark on our school. His absence leaves a huge hole in our school community, and he will be missed more than words can say."

She added: "We're offering full support to students and staff as we all try to come to terms with this heartbreaking loss."

Ibrahima's family have also paid tribute to him following his tragic and premature death.

They said: "He was so smiley and always made everybody laugh. He was a good boy.

"The killers have killed two people- me and my son. Why would anyone do this to him? He does nothing wrong. My family want justice.”

Greater Manchester Police have said that a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All four remain in custody.


Officers also detained a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Platten from GMP's Major Incident Team said: “Firstly, the Force and I would like to pass on our condolences to Ibrahima’s loved ones and we will continue to support them at this sad time.

“This incident that has seen a young boy sadly die has understandably rocked the local community in New Moston.

“We have made significant headway in the investigation which has seen us arrest another suspect on suspicion of murder, that takes the arrest total up to five and we are continuing with questioning those suspects today.

“This is a live investigation and we are still looking for information, doorbell or dashcam footage, or eye-witness accounts from anyone who was in the area at the time quoting log 2250 of 08/06/2025.
