Tragedy as person dies on railway line in Greater Manchester
Trains were stopped as emergency services responded
A person has died on a railway line in Greater Manchester.
Emergency services were called to a stretch near Hyde Central station in Tameside shortly just after 6:15am this morning (Thursday).
A person was declared dead at the scene, British Transport Police (BTP) said.
No further details about the person have yet been released.
An investigation into the death is now underway, they said.
A force statement said: "Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks at 6.16am today (5 June) on the line near Hyde Central railway station.
"Officers and paramedics attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to their death."
The line between Guide Bridge in Tameside and Romiley in Stockport was shut in both directions as emergency services dealt with the incident this morning.
Rail replacement services were run until the line reopened shortly before 10am.
