Vinicius Jr thanked new Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha after he provided an assist for the Real Madrid superstar in Brazil's 1-0 win over Paraguay.

Cunha earned his 15th cap for the five-time World Cup winners at the Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paulo in the early hours of Wednesday morning to help Brazil move a step closer to qualifying for next summer's World Cup finals in the United States.

The 26-year-old, who joined United in a deal worth roughly £60m from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, played 79 minutes of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier before being replaced by Flamengo forward Gerson.

During his time on the pitch, Cunha provided an assist for the game's winning goal towards the end of the first half as he pounced on a loose ball before crossing low and hard for Vinicius Jr to finish.

United's new forward also ended the contest with the highest number of chances created over the 90 minutes (3).

After the game, Vinicius Jr was quick to pay homage to Cunha as he posted a photo on a private jet with the new United man, captioned: "Thanks for the assistance."

The Real Madrid superstar also appeared to hint at what was next for both he and Cunha as he revealed the duo were travelling to Los Angeles, California, to meet up with sponsors Nike.

Cunha has yet to speak publicly about his move to Old Trafford, though earlier this year he described United manager Ruben Amorim as a "great coach".

“Talking about him is easy, I think he's a great coach and I wish him nothing but the best," Cunha told CNN Brazil of Amorim. “I hope he conquers the world as he did Portugal.”
