What Matheus Cunha did for Brazil speaks volumes for Man United after Wolves transfer
Manchester United summer signing Matheus Cunha was in fine form as he inspired a first win for Carlo Ancelotti
New Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha continued his blistering form onto the international stage as he was the inspiration in Brazil's win. The former Wolves attacker was at the centre of the action was they booked their place in the World Cup ahead of the competition next year.
Cunha started and managed 79 minutes as they overcame Paraguay with a 1-0 win to book their spot with two games to spare. The 26-year-old played a key part in the win as he provided the assist in the only goal of the game for Vinicius Jr.
The United summer signing was superb in the move after swooping in on a loose ball following Raphinha's run forward.
Cunha raced through before firing across the face of goal where the Real Madrid star powered the ball home.
The £62.5million attacker created the most chances during the contest to hand Carlo Ancelotti his first win since leaving Real Madrid for Brazil, following the goalless draw against Ecuador last time out - where the 26-year-old was a second-half introduction.
With Cunha's inspirational performance, Brazil became the only team to qualify for every World Cup tournament since it was formed in 1930.
The Brazil players and the new United attacker will embark on their respective breaks before returning for pre-season.
Ruben Amorim's side will take on Leeds in mid-July, then travel to America for the Premier League Summer Series, where they will play West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before rounding off their preparations at home to Fiorentina.
United supporters will get a first-look at the squad for the upcoming campaign at Old Trafford on August 9 as they look to bounce back from their torrid camping, which saw them finish just three places above the relegation zone.
Speaking about the prospect of working alongside Amorim, Cunha said: "Talking about him [Amorim] is easy.
"I think he's a great coach and I wish him nothing but the best.
"I hope he conquers the world as he did Portugal.
"God willing, we'll always do our best to help."
Prior to the international break, Cunha travelled to Manchester to finalise a five-year contract with the option of a further year.
