Wynne Evans announces engagement with huge sparkler after Strictly Come Dancing heartbreak
The opera singer took to social media to reveal he had popped the question to his partner Liz Brookes during a trip together
Wynne Evans has been flooded with congratulatory messages as he announced his engagement.
The opera singer took to social media to reveal he had popped the question to his partner Liz Brookes during a trip together in Morocco.
Wynne shared his happy news with his followers as he revealed: "Big news… I got engaged!" alongside a picture of Liz's new sparkling engagement ring as they toasted their happy news with a glass of fizz.
There was also a snap of the happy moment Wynne dropped down to one knee to ask Liz the all-important question, with both having huge smiles across their faces.
Wynne continued: "This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz — and she said yes! (No take-backs, I’ve checked).
"She’s clever, she’s kind, she’s got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug."
And the messages came flooding in. @pippi_d_2 said: "Congratulations, some happy news after a tough start to the year." @ruthlynn53 commented: "Aaaaw - lovely news! Congratulations to you both!"
@janehoward666 wrote: "So so pleased for you both , everything is on the up." @bmont88 replied: "Congratulations to you both, lovely news after a challenging year." @fabulousfeltings added: "Absolutely wonderful."
It comes after Wynne broke his silence on a controversial 'spit roast' comment that prompted a Strictly Come Dancing scandal, claiming the entire situation has 'been heartbreaking'.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the Strictly star said he is not a 'misogynist' after his apology for 'inappropriate' language during a Strictly tour photo-call earlier this year.
The 53-year-old, known for the Go.Compare insurance advertisements, was heard making sexual remarks to a woman in a video filmed during the Strictly tour launch.
BBC Radio Wales presenter claims the remark was simply a nickname given to his co-star, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, denying that it was a sexual jibe about female presenter, Janette Manrara.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday (May 24) he said: "I didn’t see the statement. Old Spit-roast Boy was a nickname for Jamie Borthwick. I’m not a bad guy, I’m not a misogynist, I’m not any of these things.
"It’s been heartbreaking. 'Spit-roast boy' was a nickname we all gave Jamie Borthwick because he could contort his legs over his head like a spit-roast chicken.
"But it absolutely wasn’t meant sexually – and the fact I used 'boy', all right it’s nuanced, but it shows I was talking to Jamie, not Janette."
It was then at the end of last month that Wynne revealed his one-year rolling BBC Radio Wales contract has not been renewed, following a four-month investigation into the comment made.
